A popular and endangered Piping Plover named Monty passed away yesterday. Birders from in and around the Chicago area have been observing the interactions between Monty and his mate Rose for 4 years. It's a sad day for birders in the area.

An extremely rare bird that is endemic to Mauritius was spotted flying around Netherfield Gardens in Nelson a couple of days ago. The bird was later identified as the Pink Pigeon. Only 500 of these beautiful birds are left in the world.

Over 100 Black Vultures were found dead in Lancaster County. Initial reports detect Bird Flu as the probable cause of deaths. In other parts of the country, many Bald Eagles are dying too. It seems like this Bird Flu epidemic is taking away thousands of precious birds from us.

Over 208 illegal hunting incidents have been witnessed in Malta and Gozo during the month of April as per BirdLife Malta. Herons, cuckoos, shrikes, doves and gulls are being targeted the most by the hunters. BirdLife Malta and the Police recovered 34 protected bird species from 10th to 30th April alone.

Summer migratory birds are being spotted by many Indian birders in Bhondsi, Mangar, Aravali Biodiversity Park and Budhera fields. It is one of the best times of the year for bird lovers in these areas to spot the Indian Paradise Flycatcher, the Indian Golden Oriole, the Rosy Starling and dozens of other beautiful birds that migrate to these areas at this time of year.

A wild fox killed as many as 25 Flamingos and one Northern Pintail Duck inside the bird enclosure of the national zoo in Washington, USA. The fox managed to escape through the same hole it creeped in through. It is a sad day for all Flamingo lovers in America and the rest of the world.

St Soldier Divine Public School in Khambra launched a campaign 'Save Birds' to increase awareness about the loss of life of our feathered friends due to the extreme heat this Summer. The students of classes 1 to 4 were the main participants. As part of the campaign, pots of water were placed in strategic locations to help birds get clean water to drink.

2078 birds belonging to 82 species were spotted on Sunday as part of the Bhoj Taal Summer Count in Bhopal. The exotic Tickell’s Thrush was spotted in the area for the first time in six years. One of the most beautiful birds, the Indian Paradise Flycatcher, was also seen by the birders and volunteers who counted the birds.
